In a special effort to raise awareness about the Braswell Arts Center Virtual Benefit Gala, we are proud to present this years featured artists.

Who are you? And a bit about your training and experience?

My name is Max Zachrisson and I’m a swede who loves being creative with anything regarding movement and/or music… First and foremost I am a dancer at Theater Basel but I also work as a videographer and composer through my company Max Zachrisson Productions.

What inspires you?

Music, physics, mathematics… Can be anything really… But usually numbers…

Tell us about the work you are presenting or dancing in?

“Alone? in the Theatre!” is basically the first video work I ever made. It’s a one man production filmed in the foyer of the opera house in Nürnberg. A man finds himself lonely and lost in this big house but as time passes, his lonely experience turns into a joyful one, far from loneliness or boredom.

Hardest part of your job?

As a dancer it can be very hard to move around to different places and you might not have the security of knowing where you will be in 5 years. At the same time, there is also a beauty in that.

Who has been the most influential person/people in your life? or Career? and why?

Wow. Difficult question! Many people have coloured me, helped me or inspired me in so many ways. But as a dancer… I guess it all started from Michael Jackson so… he has influenced me for sure!

Something you like to do other than dance?

Golf! Which is basically dancing, reduced to one movement.

Your wildest dreams for the dance world?

Well, a lot could be changed in the world of dance. But most importantly for our survival is that the younger generations don’t forget that art can be seen in the moment, and not only from the past through a screen.

Something you would change in the REAL world?

Right now I am studying Macroeconomics. The more I understand economics the more scared I get by capitalism. However, even if I had the power to change it, I wouldn’t know how to make it better since, as of now, we have no better option…

(And end world hunger and and and but I’m not gonna give the Miss America speech)
