When I first arrived at Ballet Theater Munich, “Fugaz” by Cayetano Soto was already in the repertory. After a sudden dancer injury, Cayetano asked me if I would come in and learn the piece as an ‘Emergency – Cast’. It was a strange situation, because I knew that the chances of me actually performing the piece, was slim to none. That did not stop me from saying yes right away.

The second cast guy knew his stuff… which gave Cayetano enough time to kick my ass! He was tough, but he gave lots of positive encouragement. In the end, I got to work with him a lot. I learned that opportunities present themselves in many ways. I didn’t expect to work one on one with the choreographer. I jumped at the chance to get into the studio, not knowing what would become of it. At that time he was just starting his career, now he is creating ballets all over the world……..

Thank you Cayetano for your inspiration, and for believing in this series!

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you always want to do what you’re doing now?

I always wanted to be a choreographer more than a dancer. Or to do something that relates to creativity.

Cayetano’s Favorite Things

To be in the studio with the dancers… creating.

I like dancers who…

know what they are, and what they want. I don’t like hypocrisy, and people that don’t have their own opinion.

Dear aspiring artists,

I like my small chaos around me when I am creating… in my own head. I hate artist who try to make their life as a piece of art.
