I knew of Alejandro before I met him. The stories of this new young choreographer had already reached my ears. I finally got to work with Alejandro when I danced his ballet “Lickety Split”. He is great to work with. Soft spoken and intelligent. He knows what he wants. I was second cast for the piece, and my performance was over a month away. This meant that Alejandro would be back in Chicago by then. That always sucks…
My last performance of “Lickety Split” for that season, was in Montreal. Guess who showed up? Alejandro came up to Canada to watch the show! I was happy to see him. It was really nice that he came. After the show he took the time to speak with me and thanked me for my performance. I thought that was cool… That moment stuck with me.
When I started this series Alejandro was one the first interviews I received, which pushed me to get it going. Alejandro is still dancing and is currently the first Resident Choreographer at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago…….
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you always want to do what you’re doing now?
When I was little I wanted to be a farmer! I was not very much into dance until my third year in ballet school when I was about 10 years old.
Alejandro’s Favorite Things
Things to eat?
I have written and erased my answer about ten times now, I can’t decide!!!
Books?
The Pillars Of The Earth by Ken Follett
Movies?
Teminator 2
Ballet/Dance Piece?
The cello duet from “Multiplicity” from Nacho Duato
I like dancers who…
are open minded.
Dear aspiring artists,
Don’t ever believe anyone telling you that you have no qualities for dancing, everyone does. There are dancers more versatile than others but every one has the potential to be a great dancer.
