Spring has broken through my winter slumber and I’m finding myself drawn into new projects, ideas, energies, and experiences. I’m really grateful to be able to contribute to Interview En L’air. It’s a great project that has turned into something quite special, a platform for artists, run by artists. I’m going to share one of the two pieces from the first incarnation of Continuum with Carta Blanca Dance, which we performed in February. Someone asked me after if I have a blog or somewhere that they can read my work, I didn’t at the time, but now I do and here is the first installment.

Bipolar Skin

As if awoken from dreams
Eyes bright and wide
Night is hardest on me
The great cavernous divide

Slumber is so peaceful
Drawing soft, gentle breath
These nightmares so evil
Brutal imaginings of death

Under stars we celebrate
Music pounding hard
Strobes that illuminate
Bodies writhing in the dark

Laughing at our lives
Seeking joy and fun
Finding new ways we devise
To fall into oblivion

Pain and anger I feel
Displaying calm and  quiet
Both in their own way real
Depending on how I hide it

Agree to all that’s asked
Say yes at every turn
Fearing disappointment
By bridges I must burn

Invisible lines drawn
Others set their own
Not just some sprightly fawn
Reaping what he’s sown

The arrogant narcissist rises
He’s trying his best
Blinded by his own lies
Not so different from the rest

Mornings are an intrusion
Sun breaking through the clouds
Blinking off confusion
Entangled in the eiderdown

The day has it’s beauty
Bright eyes flashing by
Night comes so quickly
As worn ideas go to die

Finding some deeper meaning
Setting to the task
Inner compass guiding
Wearing one of those masks

Trying to break free
The truth lies within
Find the real me
If I shed this bipolar skin
